MTL's Artistic Goal

MTL is the only Singapore company dedicated to the creation of original new musicals. We believe that for the musical theatre industry to progress in Singapore, creative artists must have a space where they can develop their work, have it reviewed by peers, and see the work performed in front of an audience.

We believe that musicals must be developed incrementally - through stages of incubation, showcase, and small productions.   Such shows are the culmination of our aim to develop original musicals, to the state where they can be seen and appreciated.

Incubation Programme

offers a comprehensive Incubation programme for writers and composers, both experienced and newbies. The creative team meets a panel of reviewers regularly and are mentored as they develop their work. The completed works are presented to a panel of industry professionals, for them to recommend the way forward for further development.

The final stage of our Incubation Program is a Showcase in which actors present the complete new musical on stage in a very simple format.  The writers and composers receive the essential feedback of an audience.

The Incubation Process is open, on payment of a fee, to all writers and composers resident in Singapore. Contact us for more information!

Our Production Policy

Since 2005 MTL's signature product has been the the simple production of a new musical, showcasing its fully original  script and songs, without elaborate and expensive staging.

Some works have been showcased in Staged Reading format, where the actors stand on stage holding their scripts, with no sets or blocking. Others have been presented in a studio or black-box theatre without scenery. In all cases, we aim for the highest possible standards of music, acting and singing.
